Introducing our Nutcracker Fundraising Initiative!
Our beloved annual production of The Nutcracker is only a few years shy of it’s 20th Anniversary! To celebrate, we are excited to announce our new Nutcracker Fundraising Initiative: Over the next few years we hope to make major improvements to our production that will help ensure it continues to live on as a cherished tradition for our students and our community!
We intend to use the funds raised to:
Defray the technical costs of the production: While we love performing at the beautiful Dennis C. Moss Center, the rental and production costs have gone up substantially. We simply cannot stage these performances at a smaller venue or without the necessary technical staff. Alleviating these major expenses would give us more wiggle room to begin the rest of our improvements!
Defray the cost of hired talent: One of the best parts of the Nutcracker experience for our students is having the opportunity to perform in a large-scale, professional production with the dancers of Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami. However, the professional dancers cannot perform for free and each year we make sure they’re compensated appropriately for their time and efforts.
Begin the construction of new sets and costumes over the next few years to replace the ones that are beginning to show their age. Some of our sets and costumes are actually older than the production itself! This process can be expensive and time-consuming but over time we hope to create a beautiful new production that reflects both Miami Youth Ballet and our vibrant community.

Miami Youth Ballet is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and often depends on the generosity of donors and sponsors to achieve its goals. By becoming a Corporate Sponsor of Miami Youth Ballet’s ‘The Nutcracker,’ your donation will make a lasting impression that will help ensure our production continues to live on as a cherished tradition for our students and our community.
In addition, sponsors are entitled to a variety of marketing benefits including recognition on our website and all published materials; advertisement opportunities in our digital performance programs; public acknowledgment at performances; and complimentary tickets to the sponsored performances and events.
About Miami Youth Ballet’s ‘The Nutcracker:’ Our beloved annual production of this Holiday classic premiered at Downtown Miami’s Olympia Theatre in December 2007; and moved to its new home at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center in December 2012. Our production features choreography by Miami Youth Ballet Artistic Directors Marielena Mencia and Yanis Pikieris, and a cast of over 100 students and professional dancers from Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami. Tchaikovsky’s timeless score leads us through a charming Holiday party, a fearsome battle, a dazzling snow storm, and the fantastical Land of the Sweets! Along with two public performances, our production is performed for over 3,000 Miami-Dade County school students each year - offering affordable ticket rates and a unique opportunity to attend a live dance performance!
