About Miami Youth Ballet

Miami Youth Ballet’s mission is to create opportunities for local young artists, to be mentored, grow and present their work for the enjoyment and cultural enhancement of our community. It is a not for profit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 2006 whose main focus is the development of youth dance skills. It offers students, training, extra coaching, performance opportunities and participation in the creative process.  Activities for the 2013/2014 season include our annual production of “The Nutcracker”, the “Dance Creative” choreographic showcase and workshop and "Carnival of the Animals". Our home venue for these productions is now the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center in Cutler Bay. Since its inception, MYB has presented a very successful annual Nutcracker production which is seen by up to 3,000 Miami Dade County School children each year as well as around 1500 general public. This holiday tradition for all ages includes a cast of over 100 dance students as well as professional guest artists.

Our Dance Creative program gives students chosen by audition, the opportunity to participate in the creative process of new works created specifically on them by invited contemporary choreographers. They learn the attitude and behavior necessary to successfully be a contributing part of a new creation and then get to perform it within a professional setting. Our third annual program is Carnival of the Animals. This multi –media story ballet about endangered species and the environment is presented as an educational field trip for Miami Dade County School children. All attending students receive an interactive workbook containing age appropriate activities that address both the ballet and its environmental theme. This production brings students into the world of dance, in a manner that appeals to their senses and their generation. It is an original story ballet with a dual mission; entertainment and education. It emphasizes the importance of caring for our planet’s fauna and flora and the fact that we all need to do our part. It leads students into discussion about social issues of conservation and protection of our endangered species.

Aside from these main productions, our scholarship program is now on its sixth year and provides free training and coaching for ten talented young artists. We have also collaborated in productions with the Alhambra Orchestra, the Hispanic American Lyric Theater, Miami City Ballet School, South Wood Choir and Arts Ballet Theater of Florida. We have participated in the Orlando World Ballet Competition winning the Gold Medal in the Ensemble category. Most recently our Junior Company participated in the American Dance Competition, winning various awards.

People from all backgrounds, income levels and ethnicities are able to gather and participate equally in any of the programs we present. Our productions are affordable to everyone. We are open to all and look forward to collaborating with other local organizations. Everything we do is about children and their future.
